St. Stephen’s School is a Roman Catholic school located in Chandigarh, India.

The school was founded by an Anglo-Indian Catholic Principal Harold Anthony Patrick Carver. He was previously a teacher in St Joseph’s Allahabad and St. John’s School, Chandigarh, run by the Christian Brothers. The school is affiliated to the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education I.C.S.E board.

The school first came into being in 1982 and completed it's 25 years in the year 2007. St. Stephen's School is known for its values and traditions. It is rated as one of the best schools in North India. The Football and Cricket team have brought many laurels to school. In 2010, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall from London, England paid a visit to the school.

Campus

St. Stephen's School is situated in sector - 45 Chandigarh, The City Beautiful.The building that houses the classrooms, covers an approximate area of 5 acres with no discrimination over space allocation between boys and girls. An auditorium with three levels of seating facing a raised stage, on which the house shows, debates, quizzes and cultural performances are enacted. Extracurricular subjects such as art and sculpture are taught in spacious workshops. There is also a large playground and a garden situated in the school campus. There is a large statue of Saint Stephen along with a Christian Church in the school campus.

Academics

There are 100-200 members on the teaching faculty and at the 10th level the subjects offered include Hindi, English Literature,English Language, Computers, Mathematics, Business Studies , Accountancy, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Political Science, History, Geography, Economics, Art, and Physical Education The normal student strength per classroom varies from 45-50 . There is a growing emphasis on the audio-visual aids in education.

A monthly assessment, in which each student is discussed individually, forms a unique feature of the assessment system. Very bright students are encouraged with monthly awards of Distinction and Commendation. Weak students are placed on the house masters/headmasters list and are helped to do remedial work in their weak subjects. A copy of the assessment card is given to the parents. At the end of each term a statement of marks and comments by the subject teachers are also given to the parents. The school has a state of art laboratories of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Home Science and Computer Science.

The school has an up-to-date library with a substantial collection of books and periodicals on a wide variety, accumulated over the years.

Houses

There are four houses named after four different planets in our Solar system. All the extracurricular activities are conducted between these four houses. The name of the houses along with the color of their T - Shirts are as follows:

A great number of students of the school have gone on to distinguish themselves in various fields. A student at or an alumnus of the school is termed a 'Stephanian'. St. Stephen’s School - Togan

The school has another branch in Togan, a small village near Chandigarh which is certified under C.B.S.E. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The school aims at developing an all-round ability of students with a balanced training that will lead to a proper appreciation of academic, athletic, ethical and moral excellence that goes into the making of a complete person.

Mr Roy Da Silva has joined as the new Principal of the school.
